Our Story

Find out more about the story behind ZEN Windows and Conservatories

Hello and welcome to ZEN Windows and Conservatories. I'm Paul Axton, and I'd like to share a bit of our story directly with you. 


Almost a decade ago, I started a journey that not only reshaped my career but also, I hope, helped change a little of how we think about the double-glazing industry. My transition from an engineering career to one as a salesman in the glazing and conservatory industry opened my eyes to the critical gap between what was promised to customers and what was actually delivered. 


This realisation was the catalyst for starting ZEN Windows and Conservatories.


Disillusioned by the inconsistent quality resulting from a reliance on a large, ever-changing pool of subcontractor installers, I knew there had to be a better way. The engineer in me looked for a solution grounded in precision and accountability, while the salesman in me aimed for excellence in customer experience. 


The answer was clear. Start my own company, grounded in the ethos of delivering on our promises and built upon a foundation of skilled, dedicated professionals.


At ZEN, we began small, focusing on cultivating a local team that shared a commitment to excellence, care and consistency. This selectiveness in recruitment has been key to our success, ensuring that every installation and customer interaction reflects our high standards. 


It's been my experience that whilst the customer might not always be right 100% of the time (in reference to that saying of course made famous by Harry Selfridge) they are truly right about most things in my experience, the vast majority of the time. The vast majority of our customers have fair expectations once they have made the decision to have what is often major work carried out to their homes. Recognising and respecting this has allowed us to maintain a genuine, fair exchange of quality service for our customers' investment and we aim to serve all of our customers to the best of our ability. This approach is, in my eyes, the essence of good business.


Now, as we approach our 10th anniversary, it's clear that our commitment to these principles has resonated deeply with our customers. Much of our business is built on repeat customers living in and around Bristol and their glowing recommendations, a testament to the trust and satisfaction we've fostered over the years. It's a source of personal pride and a constant reminder of why we started ZEN in the first place.


Our journey from a small start-up to a trusted name in windows, doors and conservatories is one I'm immensely proud of. It hasn't always been easy, but it's always been rewarding. At ZEN, we're more than just a company; we're a family committed to ensuring your experience with us is excellent, from the first call to the lasting satisfaction of a job well done.
