Window to French Doors Conversion in Fishponds, Bristol

We recently completed another interesting home improvement project in Fishponds, Bristol, transforming an existing dining room window into a brand new set of white uPVC French doors.

Our customer wanted to open up the room and create easier access out into the garden. To make that possible, we carried out what we call a “knock-through” installation, removing the brickwork beneath the original window and preparing the opening for the new doors.

The finished conversion has completely changed the feel of the space, bringing in more light and creating a much more practical layout for everyday living.

The original setup

Before the work began, the property had a standard dining room window looking out onto the garden. While it did the job, it limited access and didn’t make the most of the available opening.

The customer wanted something more usable and more in keeping with how they use the room, so replacing the window with French doors was the ideal solution.

The work involved

This project required more than a straight window replacement. Because the opening needed to be extended down to floor level, we carefully removed the existing window and the brickwork below it, creating the larger aperture needed for the new French doors.

From there, we made good the area internally and externally, including fitting a new threshold board and carrying out plastering work around the reveal so the new installation sat neatly within the room.

The finished result

The completed installation features a smart set of white uPVC French doors that brighten up the dining room and provide direct access to the garden. The transformation is simple but striking. What was once just a window is now a much more practical and attractive feature of the room.

Why choose French doors for a knock-through project?

French doors are a great option for this type of installation because they:

  • Let in plenty of natural light

  • Improve access to the garden

  • Make the room feel larger and more open

  • Create a more modern and versatile living space

  • Add value and visual appeal to the home
