Solid Conservatory Roof Installation in Baptist Mills, Bristol

When the homeowners of this Victorian terrace in Baptist Mills, Bristol contacted ZEN, they had a common problem. Their ageing conservatory was no longer delivering the comfort and usability they needed.
The Old Conservatory
The existing structure featured an old polycarbonate roof that struggled to regulate temperature throughout the year. During the summer months, the room became uncomfortably hot, whilst in winter it was cold and uninviting. The roof had also started to show signs of age, with discolouration, algae growth, and a tired appearance that detracted from the overall look of the property.
The homeowners wanted a solution that would improve comfort, increase energy efficiency, and create a room they could enjoy throughout every season.
The Installation
Our experienced team carefully removed the existing conservatory roof and wall frames (door and windows) and prepared the structure for the new installation.
We also removed brickwork to allow the outer single door to be turned into much more versatile French doors. The new roof was constructed using a lightweight solid roof system finished with slate-effect roof tiles. To maintain natural daylight within the room, a large rooflight was incorporated into the design.
Inside, the ceiling was fully insulated and plaster-finished, creating a clean, contemporary appearance that immediately changed the feel of the space.
As with every project we undertake, attention to detail was key. From the roofline and leadwork to the finishing details around the rooflight and guttering, our fitters took great care to ensure the completed installation looked like it had always been part of the property.
"Projects like this are about more than replacing a roof. You're changing how the room is used every day. Our fitters have installed many solid conservatory roofs across Bristol and they understand that the details matter. The finished room should feel like it belongs to the home, both inside and out." - ZEN Windows and Conservatories
The Finished Result
The completed roof has given the conservatory a completely different character.

Externally, the new tiled roof gives the conservatory a much more permanent and integrated appearance. The slate-effect tiles sit comfortably alongside the property's existing roofline, helping the conservatory blend naturally with the rest of the home. Replacing the ageing polycarbonate roof has also improved the overall look of the rear elevation, creating a cleaner, more substantial finish that feels in keeping with the character of the property.

Internally, the change is just as noticeable. The insulated plastered ceiling creates the feel and comfort of a traditional room rather than a conservatory, whilst the large rooflight continues to bring plenty of natural daylight into the space. By removing the exposed framework and translucent roofing panels, the room now feels calmer, brighter and more refined, creating a comfortable environment that the homeowners can enjoy throughout the year.

Most importantly, the homeowners now have a room that feels far more connected to the rest of their home and can be used comfortably throughout the year.
