This St George project involved replacing tired uPVC windows with elegant sliding sash windows, finished internally with traditional timber architraves for a more authentic look.
The Brief
Our customer wanted to replace their aging uPVC windows with something that felt more in keeping with their home, while also improving energy efficiency.
This period property in St George featured a prominent bay window to the front, but the existing windows had reached the end of their life. Internally, the finishes no longer reflected the character of the house, and externally the windows didn’t sit quite right with the original stonework.
The aim was clear, retain the traditional look of sliding sash windows, improve thermal performance, and finish everything properly inside with traditional timber architraves.

Our Solution
We recommended modern uPVC sliding sash windows, carefully designed to replicate the proportions and sightlines of traditional timber sashes.
To elevate the finished look internally, we paired the new windows with bespoke timber architraves, hand-fitted to follow the angles of the bay and complement the original features of the room.
This approach allowed you to enjoy the charm of a classic sash window, with the performance and reliability of modern double-glazing.

Installation & Craftsmanship
From the outside, the transformation is subtle but striking. The new sliding sash windows sit neatly within the stone surrounds, instantly refreshing the appearance of the property while respecting its period character.
Inside, the difference is even more noticeable. The new timber architraves create a warm, well-finished look around each window, removing the harsh lines left by the old uPVC trims. Every joint was carefully mitred, and the architraves were fitted flush for a clean, seamless result.
As always, we took care to protect the customers home throughout the installation and left everything tidy once the work was complete.

The Result
Now the customer has a bay window that looks right, feels warmer, and performs far better than before.
Improved thermal efficiency thanks to modern double-glazing
Smoother operation with easy-to-use sliding sash mechanisms
A more authentic period appearance inside and out
Traditional timber architraves that enhance the room rather than detract from it
Most importantly, the space feels more comfortable, quieter, and visually in keeping with the rest of the home.
